1. Thì hiện tại đơn – The simple present tense

– Cấu trúc thì Hiện tại đơn:

Động từ tobe:

Khẳng định: S+ am/ is/ are + …

Phủ định: S + am not/ is not/ are not + …

Nghi vấn: (Wh-) Am/ Is/ Are + S + …

Động từ thường

Khẳng định: S + V (S/ ES)

Phủ định: S + do not/ does not + Vinf + …

Nghi vấn: (Wh-) + do/ does + S + Vinf + …

– Cách dùng thì Hiện tại đơn:

* Thì hiện tại đơn diễn tả một thói quen hay việc thường làm ở giai đoạn hiện tại.

Ví dụ :

+ I go on holiday twice a year.

-> Một năm tôi đì nghỉ hai lần.

+ My brother smokes 20 cigarettes a day.

-> Anh tôi hút 20 điếu thuốc mỗi ngày.

* Thì hiện tại đơn diễn tả một chân lí hoặc một sự thật hiển nhiên.

Ví dụ:

+ The sun rises in the east and sinks in the west.

-> Mặt trời mọc ở hướng đông, lặn ở hướng tây.

* Lưu ý về dạng động từ ngôi thứ ba số ít ở thì hiện tại đơn:

Những động từ nào tận cùng bằng các chữ cái -ch, -s, -sh, -ss, -tch. -X, -z, -ix hoặc -o thì ta thêm es cho ngôi thứ ba số ít.

Vi dụ: watch -> watches brush -> brushes do -> does fix -> fixes

Ví dụ:

+ The weather is warm enough to go swimming.

Thời tiết đủ ấm để đi bơi.

+ The boy is not strong enough to lift the box up.

Thằng bé không đủ mạnh đế nhấc cái hộp này lên.

+ Mary is not old enough to go to school.

Mary chưa đủ tuổi đến trường.
